From My Google Alerts- June 28, 2010

A 12-year old boy killed two of the three Chihuahuas owned by his foster father in Atwater, California. He was taken to juvenile hall. Apparently, the dogs tried to bite the boy so he tossed two in a small irrigation pipe, drowning them by throwing a cement block on top of them. The third washed into a canal from a larger irrigation pipe and survived. He is a sick kid and this is a precursor to something for atrocious.

Matthew Havern was sentenced to one to twelve months in prison after his dog mauled his niece. Apparently, it was not the first time the dog attacked a toddler. The dog should have been put down the first time.

In Jacksonville, Florida, a woman is being held prisoner in her own home by stray dogs. She claims one of the dogs is a pit bull and it killed a dog across the street from her; yet, AC wouldn’t remove the dog’s body because they were called by police. Evidently, AC is understaffed and stray dogs killing others aren’t priority. Once someone is bitten or killed then AC can respond as a priority call. The strays are too fast to catch so AC says they will have to set up a trap on someone’s property, but that will take the owner’s permission and cooperation. It sounds to me like Animal Control doesn’t really give a shit.

Sentencing Delayed, Proposal Meeting, and NOT a Pit Bull

Sentencing delayed for woman convicted in March 2009 pit bull attack

Published: Tuesday, June 22, 2010, 4:52 PM     Updated: Wednesday, June 23, 2010, 9:01 AM
Saginaw County Circuit Judge Janet M. Boes was scheduled to sentence Shamorrow S. Amos today, but the sentencing date was postponed until July 13 at prosecutors’ request.

The jury also convicted Anthony D. Hunt, 34, of four of the counts and acquitted him of two of the counts. VanLanHam, who lives across the street two houses south of Amos’ former house on the Buena Vista Township side, came to the aid of his life-long friend and was attacked.

Because Boes did not remand Amos to jail prior to her sentencing, it’s unlikely Amos will be sent to prison.

Here is an update on the Butte pit bull tethering proposal.

Pit bull meeting to be held tonight

As we reported last week, Commissioner Terry Schultz is proposing an ordinance to tether or leash pit bulls.  Now opponents of this proposed ordinance are meeting tonight to formulate an argument against it to bring to commissioners.
Schultz has proposed a $100 fine on a first offense and $250 fine and loss of animal on the second offense.  The proposed ordinance has been moved to the judiciary committee who will discuss it at tomorrow night's meeting.
And Samantha Collier, owner of All About the Dawg dog daycare, has arranged tonight’s meeting for people to share their feelings and ideas and she says it's not just for pit bull owners but all dog owner.
"We’ll talk about different solutions people might have to the dog problems here in Butte. It's not just a pit bull problem, we have a dog problem at large looking for suggestions and what we can take to the commissioners to make Butte a stronger community especially for our animals," she said.
The meeting is tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  at the Butte Plaza Mall in the room across from the office and restrooms.

Town orders DOG to be euthanized

Actually, that is not what the title says on this article but it should. The article states, “18-month-old pitbull and black lab mix named Peter.” That is not a pit bull. They probably don’t even know what it is mixed with. This is the kind of stuff that irks me.

From my Google Alerts- June 19, 2010

From My Google Alerts:

Lower Township pit bull that mauled elderly woman faces a house arrest of sorts

The dog that attacked a pet shop owner will not be euthanized. The dog, Dozer, has been declared a “potentially dangerous dog.” The victim is satisfied with the decision because she wasn’t out to have the dog killed; she blames the owner, not the dog. The dog’s owner will have to pay some hefty fines and have a hefty insurance policy in order to keep the dog. I personally think the judge should have a ordered the dog euthanized because this seems like a human aggressive dog; he should have at least ordered the owner to have the dog neutered because the owner claims his female dog was in heat in turn leading the dog to attack.

Tigre the Pit Bull Battles Gator, Wins Its Life

This pit bull, Tigre, takes his name seriously. While walking with his owner, the dog waded into a lake and he was snatched by a six-foot alligator. He fought with the alligator and got loose; his owner pulled him to safety.
Tigre’s owner Oscar Alarcon said, “[I have] seen only small alligators at the lake during his daily walks and didn't realize larger alligators lived there, too.”
Okay… As a rule where there are little alligators, snakes, bears, rats, or whatever then there are usually big alligators, snakes, bears, and rats.
I’m glad Tigre is going to be okay and the WD and I wish him a speedy recovery!!!

Unrestrained pit bull attacks dog in downtown Mount Shasta

The owner of this pit bull is obviously an irresponsible and ignorant idiot. He was covering the dog’s eyes with his hands and assuring the owner of the cocker spaniel that everything was OK; the cocker spaniel was on a leash and the pit bull was not. The cocker spaniel owner felt he did not have the situation under control and started to cross the street but the dog attacked before she could get to the other side.
My heart goes out to the doggy that lost his life and his owner. As for the irresponsible idiot who did not have his dog on a leash and thought covering the dog’s eyes was going to help then I hope he is never allowed to own a dog ever again. Idiots like him are the reason responsible owners are punished.

Pit Bull Hanged in Playground

$3,500 reward being offered in the gruesome killing

I urge anyone with information about this tragic killing please call the authorities. Whoever did this awful crime needs to be brought to justice because if he or she can do this to a dog and leave her on a PLAYGROUND then think about what he or she can do to a CHILD ON THE PLAYGROUND!
R.I.P. Sweet Pit Bull

Pit Bull Owner Sentenced In Dog Mauling Case - News Story - WNEM Saginaw

The man convicted of owning two pit bulls involved in an attack on a man and woman last year will spend at least five years in prison.
A judge sentenced Anthony Hunt to five to eight years behind bars for possessing a dangerous animal causing serious injury. The dogs attacked Duane Vanlanham and Bridgetta Hadley last March in Buena Vista Township.Prosecutors said Hunt and Shamorrow Amos owned the dogs that nearly killed two people last year. The defendants maintain during the trial that the animals did not belong to them at the time of the attack.During the trail, Vanlanham told the jury exactly what happened when he pushed his neighbor and longtime friend into a car when he saw her being attacked by the three dogs more than a year ago. That woman, Bridgetta Hadley, testified that Vanlanham came to her aid by attacking the dogs with a large stick, before they turned on him.Vanlanham was hospitalized for months due to his injuries.

I hope he does!! The only way to do anything about owner irresponsibility is by giving and enforcing stiffer penalties!
