In Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, an 11-year-old girl was attacked by her neighbor’s dog when she was feeding it. The dog’s breed or type is not mentioned in the article.

In New York, a pit bull, which had eaten a skunk, was euthanized after exhibiting signs of rabies. The Oneida County Health Department tells CNY Central that on September 13 a dog living in Rome killed a skunk. The department says that the dog had ‘consumed’ so much of the skunk that there was not enough left to test for rabies. The dog’s owner was then ordered to quarantine the pet for six month to see if it had contracted the disease. The department says that last week the dog began drooling excessively, refusing food and water, and pacing around the cage. The animal was taken to the Rome Humane Society and euthanized on Saturday.
This is why you VACCINATE your pets people!!!

In Iceland, an aggressive raven attacked a dog and a child. It was euthanized.

In Sacramento County, California, three pit bull type dogs were shot during two separate incidents. One of the dogs that were shot was killed as a result; the dog was a ten-month-old female and was pregnant. The fact that the owners of the dogs in the separate incident have a 10-month pregnant female leads me to believe that AC should have taken the remaining dog because these people are not responsible enough to have a dog of any breed period.

A K-9 dog was bitten by a man after it jumped out of its police cruiser to help the officer who handles him. A suspect started an altercation with the officer and began punching him in the face. That is when the dog jumped out and bit the man who in turn bit the police dog causing it to yelp in pain.

The two northwest New Mexico men accused of decapitating a dog with chain saw appeared in court Thursday. Both 32-year-old Teddy Sexton and 31-year-old Corey Bowen are facing fourth-degree felony extreme cruelty to animals after they allegedly used a chain saw to kill a 2-year-old pit bull named Thor because it bit a child. San Juan County Sheriff’s Lt. Dwayne Faverino says Sexton and Bowen attempted to cut the dog's throat, but were having difficulty and grabbed the chain saw. Prosecutors say the issue is the method used in putting the dog down and I totally agree. Yes, the dog should have been put down for biting 2 children; however, there are more humane, effective ways to do so.

In August of 2010, a pit bull named Bootsie was beaten so severely with baseball bats that it had to be put down. The dog was found in a yard of a home by police and he was barely breathing; a freshly dug grave was being dug by a 40-year old man and a 14-year old boy. Gerald McKinley, 40, has been charged with mutilating an animal, a Class D felony, and animal cruelty, a Class A misdemeanor as of October 5, 2010. RIP sweet Bootsie! You deserved so much better.

A pit bull was left out in the rain, in a crate, for several days in Stratford, Connecticut. Police responded to a citizen complaint that a dog had been left in the rain in the backyard of a McGrath Court residence for three or four days. When police arrived at the residence, the dog was shaking, sitting in a puddle that had formed inside a crate, police said. His reasoning for doing what he did:
"The dog has fleas and we have an infant in the house."
This idiot has no business owning a dog period. This type of crap really freakin burns me. Argh………..

From My Google Alerts- September 28, 2010

A roaming pit bull was shot and killed Tuesday by Glendale police responding to calls that the dog had trapped clients in a rehab facility. The dog chased a client from the Glendale Adventist Drug and Alcohol Center into the building and it was scratching at the door. The clients were scared to exit the building so they called police to the scene. Two officers and a police sergeant saw the pit bull near the building and parked on one end of the block to assess the situation, he said. It was then that the dog slanted its ears back and began sprinting toward the officers. Officers first shot the dog with a rubber bullet, but it didn't stop and continued running toward them. That's when they used regular ammunition, killing the dog, Montecuollo said. "Unfortunately, officers killed the dog, but stopped the threat," he said.
So where in the world was AC? I find it hard to believe there was nothing they could have done to get the animal under control. The dog in question NEVER ACTUALLY BIT ANYONE. I hate news articles like this because the media always twists situations like this to make pit bulls seem so horrible. All I inferred from the described behavior of the pit bull is that it was scratching the door of the building not that it was aggressively trying to gain access to the building and kill everybody.

Jonathan Whitworth and his family are suing the city of Columbia after a raid on the family’s house ended with the family pit bull being shot by police and a 7-year-old held at gunpoint. The horrific YouTube video is forever burned into my mind of this sad, unnecessary incident. Whitworth is suing the city of Columbia and several police officers, claiming his family's constitutional rights were violated, according to the Columbia Daily Tribune.

On February 11, a Columbia SWAT team busted down Whitworth's door, killed his pit bull (you can hear the dog squealing and whimpering on the video), wounded his corgi/pit bull mix, rounded up his wife and 7-year-old son, held them at gunpoint just a few feet from the now dead dog, and handcuffed him. In all, officers fired seven shots. The police did all of this because they believed Whitworth was a "major marijuana distributor." A small amount of weed, a pipe, and a grinder was all that was found in the home. Some “major marijuana distributor” Mr. Whitworth was, huh?
This video is graphic and I don’t recommend watching it; I wish I had not watched it; however, it is an accurate display of law enforcement abusing their power. So sad……….

In Florence County, SC, an ordinance on tethering has been proposed and the reactions are mostly positive. The proposed ordinance creates regulations for tethers that restrain dogs 6 months or older to houses, trees, garages or other stationary objects. The ordinance aims to prevent dogs from being tethered outdoors during extreme heat or cold, thunderstorms and floods. It states that a tether can’t be more than a tenth of the dog’s weight and that a tether must be attached to a “properly fitting” harness or collar — not directly to a dog’s neck. The tether must be at least 12 feet long, and it must be positioned to prevent injury, strangulation, or entanglement. It also must have a swivel on at least one end in order to prevent tangling. The time allowed for tethering a dog is limited to no more than one hour at a time and no more than three hours in a 24-hour period.

Please make sure to watch the video in the original article. This woman looks incredible now! She adopted a shelter dog a year and a half ago and soon learned of the dog’s insatiable desire to run. Great story!

In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, two cops were pursuing a robbery suspect when the suspect ran into a home that had a pit bull; one cop shot and killed the pit bull after one of the two was bitten on the leg. The article does not mention if this house was random or belonged to the suspect/acquaintance if this were a random house, I would be hella pissed and sue the crap out of the city.

A pit bull was shot in the shoulder by police after its owner ordered the dog to attack the police officers. The police were called because Darlene Suzette Taylor allegedly struck her mother during an altercation. Taylor faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. The report says Taylor is also charged with battery on a person 65 years of age or older for striking her mother, Jonell Lazerte, 79, who told officers Taylor threw her to the ground and struck her in the face during an argument before running out of the house.

A St. Petersburg police officer shot and killed two leashed dogs on Sunday night; an unleashed, blind Labrador retriever approached the two-leashed dogs and began fighting with one, a Chesapeake Bay retriever. Chris Clark, owner of one of the dogs he was walking, said the dogs' leashes were wrapped around his legs and caused him to fall down, so he grabbed them by the collars. "While I'm still sitting on the ground, I hear, 'Mad dog,' and I've got a gun right next to my head firing and shooting Missy, the Chesapeake retriever. Then he (the cop) comes over and shoots my dog in front of me," Clark said. By that point, the dogs were not fighting anymore and the other dog had moved away, Clark said. The dogs were shot four times, killing both of the leashed dogs. Was that necessary? I have no doubt that the fight could have been easily broken up soon enough. There was no need to shoot those two dogs; in addition, if any dog was going to be shot why not shoot the one that is not on a leash. The bottom line is the use of a gun was not necessary and this cop needs to be taken off duty. He seems a little trigger-happy.
