A man was bitten in the face by a pit bull Friday morning while he was in the 1000 block of North O'Brien Street in South Bend.

A cousin of the man told Tribune reporter Mary Kate Malone at the scene the dog pinned the man on the ground and bit him in the face.

South Bend Police at the scene said the man's injuries were not life-threatening.

Animal control officers found the dog at a house on Huey Street.

Friday afternoon, Animal Control officer Kim Lucas told WSBT-TV a neighbor shot the dog in a hind leg after the attack.

Lucas said the dog's owners were given the option of seeking medical treatment for the dog and then have the dog quarantined or having the dog euthanized.

The owners chose to euthanize the dog.

The owners have one other pit bull and have been given 48 hours to obtain the required 'dangerous animal' license.

So was this dog at large or was the man inside the home where the dog lived? So few details yet the headline assures readers it was a pit bull. This is not news, in my opinion, especially when an article lacks so many details as this one does. Pit bull attacks sell newspapers though, right?
